Brightwell Aquatics Xport NO3 Dimpled Brick - Xport – the premier filtration media in the world!

Xport-NO3 Ultra-activated Denitrification Media with Superior Performance Characteristics.

  • Utilizes NanoIntelex Technology to create an enhanced, "ultra-activated" material with the capacity to outperform conventional denitrification media by over 300%
  • Open structure and high surface area results in superior flow-through characteristics and filtration efficiency.
  • Higher efficiency relative to conventional media results in smaller space requirements to achieve equivalent denitrification.
  • May be employed to rapidly decrease nitrate in even the most heavily-stocked systems.
  • Eliminates the need to perform water changes that are carried out for the express purpose of decreasing nitrate in an aquarium system.
  • May be used in conjunction with Xport-BIO and Xport-PO4

  • Nominal 9" x 4.50" x 2.50" for Aquascaping, Biofiltration, and Coral Propagation

Because our material is not fired or heated, but chemically hardened:

  • Surface area over 10 times as high as any competing products (many times hundreds to thousands of times as high)
  • Wicks water and stays wet for days after a pump fails, allowing bacteria to remain alive much longer and be ready when a system upset is repaired.
  • We can dope it with sulfur, ferric oxyhydroxide or almost any other material to facilitate bacterial growth or remove pollutants
  • It contains coral aragonite powder to buffer pH and provide for bacteria life longevity.
  • We can make it in almost any shape and size - to fit a specific filter system.

  • Use one XPort NO3 BRICK for every 1,000 U.S. gallons (3,800 L) of system capacity, more for heavy bio loads. Rinse material well with aquarium water or purified tap water. For superior results, seed the material well with the aquarium water or purified tap water. For superior results, seed the material using FLORINBACTER, MICROBACTER7 or MICROBACTER CLEAN as appropriate for your aquarium, by placing XPORT NO3 BRICK in a plastic container, filling it with aquarium water, and then adding the full recommended dose of either bacterial product, based on the size of your aquarium, to that container. Allow to stand overnight and then add the seeded XPORT NO3 BRICK to your system. You may also add the water back to your aquarium if desired. It is recommended that you use sponge, fine filter floss or other material. For maximum results, also provide a good carbon source of growing bacteria, such as Brightwell KATALYST bio pellets or liquid REEF BIO FUEL or FLORIN AXIS as appropriate for your aquarium, as directed on their label.

Does the job its intended to do

Pros: Highly effective in removing nitrates, super porous, allows a high quantity of beneficial bacteria to flourish

Cons: Does tend to break do disintegrate over long periods of time and possibly be replaced over the course of a couple of years

It's definitely the most porous form of biological filtration I've ever seen and does perform as stated dramatically lowering nitrates over the course of bacteria building up inside over time. Great for tanks with not enough biological filtration, shallow sand beds, few rock, or heavy bio-load. I will note almost after a year of use in a sump chamber designated for biological filtration/refugium it does seem to be disintegrating around the edges but still seems about 95% in tact. I will continue to use it while adding another brick and then after a period of time removing the old one.

Avoid it, unless you like cleaning out your sump often

Pros: Worked great to start, lowered NO3 by 50% in the first week

Cons: 3 months later it is a rectangular piece of goop

Purchased one of them form my LFS 3 months ago. Like others I placed it in my skimmer section of my sump, where the flow was low. Three months later it is about 1/3 as big as it started and basically like clumped together sand with the consistency of mud, Will have to take the fuge/sump down and clean all the loose material out now...

    Does not last

    Pros: None

    Cons: Not a reliable product

As others have stated, this bio-brick will soften and start to dissolve in less then 4 months. I placed mine in on 5/5/17 and it's at a point that if you touch it. it'll fall apart.
So in essence, how can it be porous and house bacteria if it's a clump of sand? Don't waste your money or time, try the competitor instead.

    NO3 Brick

Tried one in each of my fresh water (180 & 150) tanks with high bio load. Even with apprx. 20% water changes weekly, I still have high nitrates. The product would probably work with a normal bio load so I have to look somewhere else to help with my nitrates.

    Pros: None

    Cons: Everything

Have the brick installed in a low flow area of my sump, brick is literally disintegrating into sand in my sump after only 4 months, At this price point I expected a lot higher quality, save your self the hassle of draining and vacuuming your sump and just keep up with water changes.

    Fell Apart

    Pros: Cheap. nice form factor

Cons: Brittle. Doesn't last long. Poor quality

I got this product 3 months ago. There were very few reviews at the time. However when cleaning out my sump today the brick is essentially falling apart and turning into sand. When moving it to another sump chamber the brick started shedding sand. I am very disappointed in the brick as I was going to add another to my sump. But after seeing how poorly it is made I will definitely not buy another.
